PRAIRIE CITY — The Grant Union Lady Prospector basketball team headed to Prairie City on Saturday, Dec. 16, for the second day of the 13 Mile Shootout looking to break even over the course of the two-day event with a win over Adrian, but turnovers hampered the team’s effort as they ultimately fell 56-16.

Adrian would score first, with the Lady Pros hitting a pair of free throws to tie the game at 2-2 early on. The Lady Antelopes would then go on an 18-3 run through the remainder of the first quarter to take a 20-5 lead into the second.

The Lady Antelopes would score the first five points of the second quarter to extend their lead to 23-5 with just over 7:00 to go in the half. A three-pointer by Brianna Sharp with less than a minute left in the second quarter put the Lady Pros into double digits with 10 points, but Grant Union would ultimately have a lot of work to do in the second half, staring at a 31-10 deficit at intermission.

Adrian would continue to score in the third quarter as the Lady Pros’ struggles to take care of the ball presented themselves in earnest. The Lady Antelopes would convert those struggles into more points, taking a 52-15 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Pros would up the pressure on defense in the final frame, holding the Lady Antelopes to just four points in the fourth. It wouldn’t be enough, however, as the Lady Pros struggled offensively, managing just one point in the fourth to fall 56-16.

Taylor Palmateer and Grace Hueckman paced the Lady Pros on offense, finishing with five points each. Brianna Sharp rounded out the top scorers for Grant Union, finishing with three points in the game.

The loss was the second of the weekend for the Lady Prospector, who fell to Imbler 48-18 during the first day of the 13 Mile Shootout on Friday, Dec. 15, at Grant Union High School. The losses leave the Lady Pros at 1-8 on the season without having played a league game thus far.

The Lady Pros will look to get back into the win column when they welcome Union to town on Thursday, Dec. 21. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Grant Union High School.
