DAYVILLE — Residents of Dayville woke up on Thursday with little or no water coming from the tap after the town’s 125,000-gallon reservoir tank suffered a leak on a main, according to acting city manager Ruthie Moore.

City officials notified residents they should boil water until further notice on the morning of Thursday, Feb. 8. Water pressure was slowly building back up in the storage tank, which is fed by springs and a well, Moore said, but would take a several days to come back to normal. By Monday, Dayville residents had normal water pressure but were still being warned to boil their tap water before drinking.

The pipeline that suffered an initial leak connected to three households, Moore said. A separate leak was found on Monday, Feb. 12. Since then, all leaks have been resolved and the reservoir was filling up normally as of Monday afternoon, said Dayville Public Works Director Savanna Martin.

Dayville School parents were notified that school was closed for the day on Feb. 8 because of the water situation, said Superintendent Davida Irving. School resumed on Feb. 12. Martin, who is a parent at the school, said children were provided bottled water to drink. Martin said she hopes the reservoir will fill up enough by Thursday or Friday this week to be able to send water samples for testing to see if the water is safe to drink.
