Father and son charged after violent John Day assault incident

JOHN DAY — The father of a John Day man arrested on Monday, Feb. 5, after a dispute over an allegedly stolen four-wheeler has now been charged with assault and unlawful use of a weapon in the same incident.

Robert Lee Warrington Sr., 63, of John Day, was arraigned Wednesday, Feb. 14, on a Class B felony count of assault in the second degree and a Class C felony count of unlawful use of a weapon. He is accused of using a golf club to cause physical injury to a 36-year-old John Day man, according to court documents.
His son, Robert Lee “Bob” Warrington Jr., 40, was arrested on Monday, Feb. 5, after the dispute over a four-wheeler at an address in the 600 block of West Main Street in John Day. During the incident, the victim was reportedly pistol-whipped and struck in the head with a golf club, according to Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley.
The victim, who was not a party to the original stolen four-wheeler case but was on the scene at the request of the landlord, is recovering from his injuries, according to McKinley.

The younger Warrington was charged Feb. 6 in Grant County Circuit Court on a Class C felony count of unlawful use of a weapon and a Class A misdemeanor count of menacing, according to a court document filed by District Attorney Jim Carpenter.
In the first count, Warrington Jr. is alleged to have possessed a pistol with the intent to use the weapon unlawfully against the victim and threatening to use a firearm during the commission of this felony, according to the charging document. In the second count, Warrington Jr. is alleged to have unlawfully attempted to place the victim in fear of imminent serious physical injury by pointing the firearm at him.
A plea hearing for Warrington Jr. is set for March 4 at 1:30 p.m. in Grant County Circuit Court. A plea hearing for Warrington Sr. is set for March 11 at 1 p.m. at the court.
