JOHN DAY — Three Humbolt Elementary School students have been named local winners in the Oregon Elks State Association’s annual eye safety poster contest.
Samantha Reitz won first place, Charlee Oakes won second and Ellie Mae Griffin won third, the John Day Elks Lodge announced. Their posters will be sent to the Baker City Elks Lodge for district judging.
The annual contest is a partnership between the Elks association and the Casey Eye Institute at Oregon Health and Science University. Children from around the state create posters about the importance of eye health and safety.
Local Elks lodges submit their winning posters to one of five districts around the state, with the best of those forwarded to the Casey Eye Institute for consideration.
