The PGA Tour goes international this week for the national open of Mexico, officially the Mexico Open at Vidanta.

Coming off the signature event Genesis Invitational and the West Coast swing, and immediately before the start of the Florida swing and another signature event in two weeks at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the Mexico Open doesn’t have the most star-studded field of the season.

Infact, if you scan down the Official World Golf Ranking your finger will go down to No. 24 to see someone in the field: defending champion Tony Finau. The only other players in the top 40 this week are Nicolai Hojgaard (No. 34) and Emiliano Grillo (No. 40). 

But there’s still 500 FedEx Cup points and $8.1 million up for grabs, so this week is an opportunity for players farther down the Tour pecking order to pick up some momentum in the season and perhaps play their way into bigger events.
