Long Creek Mercantile at 105 Highway 395 N, Long Creek, Oregon, is not just a store — it is a community hub. Over the past 100 years, the building has been many things, among them a gas station or a café but, since July 2022, when Dan and Antonia Kreamier took over, Long Creek Mercantile is becoming so much more.
Since arriving, the Kreamier’s have rehabbed, repainted, replaced tables and chairs, and created the Juniper Bar. They look at the Long Creek Mercantile as a “labor of love.” Before coming to Long Creek, they lived in Fairview, but have deep roots in Long Creek. Both of Dan’s brothers now live in Long Creek and the family has been visiting the area for decades for the hunting and fishing and other outdoor pursuits.
Dan and Antonia see their mission as “providing good quality food and service to the community.” They want Long Creek Mercantile to be a gathering place for the community and for visitors to escape the hustle and bustle of life and enjoy everything this beautiful part of Oregon has to offer.
The Cafe serves breakfast and lunch Tuesday through Saturday highlighted by The Worst Darn Breakfast (WDB). Consisting of two eggs, hash browns, toast, and bacon or sausage, it has become a tradition in Long Creek. Also on the menu are the Hillbilly Burger, Reuben’s, Philly’s, homemade potato salad, macaroni salad, and other homemade pasta delights. For dessert, you can dig into some huckleberry ice cream and a variety of homemade goods. Long Creek Mercantile also offers daily specials.
Long Creek Mercantile also has an impressive array of items for sale, from hardware and kitchen wares to produce and beer and champagne with great plans for the future. They also offer products from local artisans, such as “The Kitchen Cupboard,” a line of jams and jellies, as well as dish scrubbies, rugs, soaps, in addition to Long Creek Mercantile merchandise such as coffee tumblers, ley chains, tee shirts and hoodies. They also carry feed for goats, pigs, chickens, dogs, and cats, as well as providing notary services and an ATM.
In keeping with their mission of providing service to the community, Long Creek Mercantile hosts community events, including community dinners and a Christmas ornament and tree lighting event. Next up is the Easter event on March 23rd, with a pancake breakfast at the Long Creek Community Center, an Easter egg hunt at the City Park, including one “Golden Egg” with a prize for each age group, and a photo op with the Easter Bunny. Children from kindergarten to age 12 from all over the region participate, with almost 40 participating.
Looking forward, Dan and Antonia are going to continue to improve the 100-year-old building and apply for grants in that effort to make Long Creek Mercantile even more of a gathering place for the community. They plan work on the face and enlarge the outdoor seating from 9 to 20 people and provide overhead shading, as well as enhance the ambience with curbside projects. As Dan said, “It’s not a sprint, but a marathon.”
With the Kreamier‘s enthusiasm and dedication and the undeniable appeal of the Long Creek area for outdoor recreation, Long Creek Mercantile will continue to offer a place to stock up, slow down, and enjoy the bonds that a close-knit community can offer.
