JOHN DAY — A single-car rollover crash near the intersection of Highway 26 and Johnson Drive on Tuesday, March 18, led to the closure of both lanes of Highway 26 while crews worked to remove the mangled BMW involved in the crash.
Veronica Young, 55, of John Day, rolled her BMW sport-utility vehicle while trying to navigate “mill corner,” just west of the John Day city limits. Oregon State Police public information officer Kyle Kennedy said the accident took place at 12:28 p.m. on Tuesday.
The vehicle sustained heavy damage in the crash.
Traffic was diverted through the former Oregon Pine mill property by a Grant County sheriff’s deputy until the wreckage was cleared.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office, John Day Ambulance, Oregon State Police and John Day Fire Department all responded to the crash.
Young sustained unspecified injuries as a result of the accident.
Kennedy said that impairment due to drugs or alcohol did not play a role in the crash, pointing to a potential medical issue as a contributing factor.
