Prineville man killed, cars catch fire in Sherman County crash

SHERMAN COUNTY — Two vehicles caught fire and a Prineville man died after a head-on collision in Sherman County on Monday.

Jayden Matthew Smith, 23, was driving a Volkswagen Beetle north on U.S. Highway 97 when he crossed into the opposite lane and struck a Volvo towing a trailer, according to a press release from Oregon State Police.
Authorities do not yet know why Smith crossed the lane.
The crash, which occurred near milepost 47, caused both vehicles to catch fire, police said.

Smith died at the scene.
The driver of the Volvo, Kashmir Singh, 36, of Tacoma, Washington, was not injured, police said.
