Pros fall to Baker/Powder ValleyThe Grant Union/Prairie City/Monument Prospector baseball team fell 8-7 to class 4A’s Baker/Powder Valley on Tuesday, March 19, at the Seventh Street Sports Complex in John Day.
The Bulldogs played with the lead for most of the game, building an 8-4 advantage after five innings of play. Attempts by the Pros to rally and launch a comeback bid fell a single run short, with the Pros scoring a pair of runs in the sixth and a single run in the seventh to fall 8-7.
The Pros did have an opportunity for some late game heroics but would ultimately log the game’s final two outs with both the tying and winning runs win scoring position.
Baryn Huerta led the Pros at the plate, finishing a perfect 2-2 at bat with an RBI and a run scored. Huerta also drew three walks in the game.
Weston Suchorski finished 1-4 at bat with three RBIs. Suchorski also took the loss for the Pros on the mound, striking out five batters while giving up four hits and two earned runs in three innings of work.
The game leaves the Prospectors at an even 2-2 on the season. The Pros will be in Arizona for a slate of four games from Monday, March 25, until Wednesday, March 27.
