- A Humbolt Elementary School kindergarten student gets off the bus Dec. 15, 2021, at Valley View Assisted Living in John Day, where the students held their annual Christmas hat parade.
Mr. Sharp and I think Grant County would improve if we had more money for better PE equipment at Humbolt Elementary. Right now, Mr. Sharp the PE teacher at Humbolt Elementary does not have enough money for good equipment. Mr. Sharp has a long wish list for ways to improve PE at Humbolt Elementary. Mr. Sharp pointed out the need to remain within his budget, shared the equipment on his wish list, and shared goals beyond his current budget.
When I asked Mr. Sharp about how much money he needs, he stated “as much as I can get,” with a smile on his face. Mr. Sharp explained the school budget to me and shared that he always has a wish list ready to discuss with the principal. He knows he won’t receive everything on his wish list, but wants to always be prepared with his priorities for the budget. He stated, “A budget is like your Christmas wish list. You hope to get everything on it. But realistically you won’t, so you will need to prioritize what you want most.”
Each year, Mr. Sharp has a budget to purchase equipment. He always has a wish list that adds up to more than his budgeted amount. His current wish list includes: volleyball nets and balls, various youth basketball sizes, baseball batting tee’s, youth sized footballs, stop watches and smaller sized jump ropes.
Mr. Sharp also has additional equipment that he hasn’t even added to his wish list. I asked him what he would want for PE if he didn’t have a budget. He answered that he would like to buy a set of watches that monitors the student’s heart rate. He would use these to teach classes to monitor their heart rate during exercise and game times.
In conclusion, Mr. Sharp and I would like to get more money for PE Equipment for the students of Humbolt Elementary. Mr. Sharp has a wish list ready to discuss the equipment he would purchase with the budget he receives each year. We believe that this would help improve physical fitness for the kids of Grant County.
I am 100% sure that Grant County would benefit from a travel softball girls team for 10 years old and up. Most girls want to play softball all over the state. Girls would be able to play a longer and better season. Girls will learn new stuff and have a better attitude. These are some reasons why I think Grant County would benefit from a travel softball team.
First things first, we would be more fit. You would most likely run a lot. By running you can stay healthy, stay in shape, and get stronger. The more you do it the easier you can run and do it faster. 2 years ago I could barely run a lap around the high school gym. But now I can run a whole mile around that gym in less than 13 minutes.
Another major reason is, we could play a longer season. Which means we would get better practice in. We would play longer so we stay in shape longer, we would get better softball skills, Which means we might have a better chance at all stars!
One of my favorite reasons is girls will have a better attitude. If we have a longer and better season than girls will realize softball isn’t just a game it’s also a lesson. It’s a lesson because it teaches you how to act when things don’t go your way, how to never give up on your dreams, it teaches you discipline, and every thing is never gonna “Just be easy.” because that’s not how life works.
This is why I think Grant County needs a girls softball team, it would help young kids stay more healthy and not be on screens all day long. Travel Softball Grant County!
Grant County would be better with a trampoline park and here’s why. Grant county would make money. The nearest Trampoline park is in Bend, a 3 hour drive. We would get visitors which would make our population bigger. This would make Grant County better
First of all, the drive to the nearest trampoline park is too far. It is 3 hours and it can be dangerous driving all the way to Bend in the winter. Gas is between 3 to four dollars a gallon and that can be a lot of money for some people.
Another reason that a trampoline park would be good in Grant County is because Grant County would make money which we could use for roads, buildings and other things. The new things would attract people and give us a bigger population of people.
Now that I have stated the reasons for benefits you can see that a trampoline park will help Grant County and overall just make it more enjoyable.
Do you wonder what John Day would be like with a horse facility? Well, I think John Day would be 100% better with one. Owning a horse is very expensive and can be even more expensive if they get hurt or skinny. That is one reason why John Day would be better with a horse facility.
First of all, you can’t get better without a trainer. You can get lonely riding by yourself and horses can get lonely without other horses too plus buying another horse means more money for feed, vet bills, tack, the horse in general (vet bills can range from 70$-250$ just to see the vet. Horses can also range from 1,000$-20,000$ for one horse. Hay also averages about 100$-400$ a big bale.)
Also it is a lot cheaper to board at a barn or facility (20-100$). You don’t even have to board your own horse. You could even borrow and lease horses with your friends and family for trail rides and just riding in an arena. also kids and adults can be hired to be stable hands, groomers, horse trainers, riding instructors and so much more. Horses can also even be therapeutic for children and adults.
So those are a couple reasons why John Day would be 100% better with a horse facility for everyone to enjoy, because horses can be expensive and a lot of work. Plus no one wants to be lonely.
Have you ever wondered what Grant County would be like if we had a rec center? I believe that a rec center would be a great benefit for Grant County! If we had a rec center it would bring in visitors to Grant County. I believe that it would give youth more activity in the summer and winter. It also might give youth and others jobs, and raise money for events and sporting events. So that is why I would love to have a rec center in Grant County.
And to be with family and friends, They can have fun spending time together at a rec center. It also gives family something to do when people visit. It’s a great party spot for birthdays and celebrations.
Another reason is that it would help kids have summer activities. One way it would give summer activity is that they can play basketball and they can swim too. It can also help improve health by giving exercise to youth and children. Another way it would give youth and children something to do.
Also a rec center would give jobs to those who can’t get jobs or need jobs like youth. It raises money for the community to use for 4h or other activities for the community . This is a very good way to raise money for events because it is fun and open to the community
As you can see, a rec center would be an awesome benefit for Grant County. It would give Grant county a great population. It would also give amazing vacation sites. I hope you will look into this. Thank you.
Would you like to see an MLB team in Portland, Oregon? An MLB team is a Major League Baseball team. They are professional baseball players in the US and Canada. Portland is one of the biggest metropolitan cities in the US to not have a pro baseball team. For many reasons Portand should have a professional baseball team.
To begin, Portland should have a professional baseball team in the MLB, because people in Oregon and other states would come to Portland and have more fun and the city would make money. Many teams in the MLB make millions of dollars in profit. According to Forbes magazine, the Los Angeles Dodgers had a revenue of $581 million dollars in the 2022-2023 MLB season (source 1). If Portland had a pro baseball team more people would come to Oregon and have lots of fun and might even want to move here. If a family went to a professional baseball game in Oregon they would have to pay for the seats at the game, hotels, restaurants, and other fun activities. All of this additional revenue could help the city of Portland fund new buildings, lots of programs, and other improvements to the city.
Additionally, Portland should have a pro baseball team because Portland is one of the biggest metropolitan cities in America without one. Portland is the 26th largest city in the US (source 2). Of the 25 cities larger than Portland, more than half have one or more MLB teams. The bigger the population the more variety of sports teams a city should have. Portland already has a pro soccer team, a pro basketball team, and a pro hockey team so next Portland should have a pro baseball team.
In contrast, some people believe that a new baseball team would be too much of a financial risk. It is hard to make enough money for an MLB team when you are just starting. According to Gary Conkling, “The obstacle is money-more specifically, how to make money in a mid-size market with an expansion team and an unproven baseball fan base” (source 3). Based on this information, some people may think it would cost too much to have a pro baseball team in Portland. However, many other pro baseball teams in the Pacific Northwest have a huge fan base. After the first few years the Portland team would start making money, and it would be worth the financial investment.
To conclude, Portland deserves a pro baseball team. Building a new stadium and a new team is a big financial investment, but Portland is a large city that has already proven it can support 3 pro sports teams. Also, adding a franchise baseball team to Portland would bring in fans, investments, and opportunity to Portland. Portland is an undeniable, thrilling sports city with benefits going way beyond the franchises and fans. Portland should have a pro baseball team. Let’s swing for the fences Portland, for everyone.
