MONUMENT — A 19-year-old shooting enthusiast came away with the top prize in a recent shotgunning competition at the B Bar J Ranch near Monument.
Tucker Ashbeck, of Heppner, posted the best score out of 100 shots and was awarded a Savage HMR 17 rifle with a scope, valued at $600.
The winning shooter’s father, Andy Ashbeck, won $250 in cash for second place, and Jake Hyder, of Monument, won $150 for finishing third.
Organized by ranch owners Brad and Julie Smith, the four-part clay pigeon-shooting competition began in November and wrapped up on April 13.
Originally slated to end in March, the competition was pushed back a month after the January shoot had to be rescheduled due to a snowstorm.
