EOU honors local students
LA GRANDE — Four Grant County students have been named to the dean’s list for fall term at Eastern Oregon University.
The students, with their hometowns and major fields of study, are:
• Marcus Judd, Prairie City, health and human performance.
• Laken McKay, Prairie City, multidisciplinary studies.
• Isaac Rigby, John Day, computer science.
• Tiler Voigt, Prairie City, business administration.
To qualify for the dean’s list at EOU, students must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher while completing at least 12 credits of graded coursework.
May reading challenge announced
JOHN DAY — The Grant County Library’s reading challenge for May will have a DIY theme, library officials announced: How-to books.
To get your name entered in a prize drawing, read a how-to book of your choosing and turn in your name, phone number and the title of the book to library staff by May 31. The prize for the month is a $25 gift certificate to True Value Hardware.
The April reading challenge is to read a graphic novel.
Cleo McKnab was announced as the winner of the March challenge, which was to read a book that has been made into a movie. McKnab’s selection was “Black Beauty.”
ODFW fish board has opening
SALEM — The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is accepting applications to fill an open position on its Restoration and Enhancement Board.
The opening is for a representative of the public at large.
The deadline to apply is May 15. Application forms are available online at dfw.state.or.us/fish/RE/board.asp.
Candidates should be able to represent the public on a variety of fisheries issues. Knowledge of hatcheries, fishing access, fish habitat and water conservation is desirable.
Board members are appointed to four-year terms by the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission. The board meets two to four times a year at various locations around the state to review project funding requests, hear public testimony and conduct other business.
