The Grant Union/Prairie City Lady Prospectors continue to show why they are the class of 2A softball, dismantling the Heppner Lady Mustangs 12-0 and 17-2 on Friday, April 26, for their 11th and 12th consecutive wins.

The first game of the doubleheader saw Addy Northway hit for the cycle as the Lady Pros scored nine runs in the third and fourth innings to cruise to a 12-0 mercy rule win.

Northway started her journey toward the cycle with a first inning double, then belted a second inning triple that brought a run across home plate to give the Lady Pros a 3-0 lead and left Northway sitting in scoring position on third base.

Savannah Watterson, Reece Jacobs and Drew Williams all hit solo homers in the third to give the Lady Pros a 6-0 advantage. Not to be outdone, Northway hit her own homer in the first at-bat of the fourth inning to put the Lady Pros up 7-0.

Northway completed the cycle in the bottom of the fourth inning when she smacked an RBI single that brought Gracee Hueckman across home plate for the Lady Pros’ 12th and final run of the game.

Northway led the team offensively in the first game, finishing a perfect 4-4 at the plate with three RBIs. Williams, Jacobs and Taylor Palmateer each finished with a pair of RBIs. Williams and Jacobs went 2-3 at the plate, and Palmateer finished 1-2.

Williams picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Pros, pitching all five innings while striking out eight batters and surrendering a mere three hits.

The Lady Pros leaned on Jacobs’ five RBIs in the second game of the doubleheader en route to a 17-2 mercy rule victory after three innings. Both Sivanna Hodge and Jacobs continued the Lady Pro hot streak at the plate, registering solo and three-run homers in the game.

After racking up three runs in the first inning, the Lady Pros scored seven runs each in the second and third frames to end the game prior to the official halfway mark.

Jacobs led the Lady Pros on offense in game two, finishing 2-3 at the plate with five RBIs. Northway, Watterson and Hueckman each finished with a pair of RBIs in game two.

Halle Parsons picked up the win for the Lady Pros in an efficient outing. Parsons surrendered a single earned run on three hits while striking out three Lady Mustang batters.

The Lady Prospectors have scored at least 10 runs in 10 of their last 12 games and while never surrendering more than three runs during their 12-game wining streak.

The top-ranked Lady Pros are 16-1 on the season with an 8-0 record in league play. They’ll look to keep their momentum going when they take on Union/Cove on Wednesday, May 1, at the Seventh Street Sports Complex in John Day.

Start time for that game is scheduled for 4 p.m.
