To the Editor:
Kudos to John Day’s new city manager and budget director for taking commonsense steps to address the city’s crazy debt.
In the meantime, a public works official has decided to become a one-man political wrecking ball, filing to recall half the city council. These same councilors for some reason agreed not to appoint a new mayor after the last one was recalled and instead wait for the fall election. I think that was a bad decision — an interim mayor should have been appointed so the city could get on with straightening out its bizarre debt.
But this public works official didn’t want to wait — a ton of people will see the city council election on the same ballot with the presidential candidates. And like the last recall election, no proof has been provided — the who, what, where, when and how of the allegations. It seems a bit too easy to file for a recall. It’s like indicting a ham sandwich.
