PRINEVILLE — The Oregon Department of Forestry has issued a high fire danger designation for the Central Oregon District, which includes Grant County, effective July 1.
With continuing high temperatures, winds and drying fuels, the district is issuing pubic use restrictions and regulated use closures on lands protected by ODF in an effort to reduce the number of human-caused wildfires.
The following restrictions are now in place on all ODF-protected lands in the district:
• Fireworks and blasting are prohibited.
• No debris burning is allowed, including brush piles and burn barrels.
• Open fires are prohibited, including campfires, charcoal fires, warming fires and cooking fires, except in designated areas. Propane fire pits and camp stoves are allowed, but there must be a shovel and a gallon of water or a fire extinguisher on site.
• Chainsaw use and mowing of dry grass is prohibited between 1 and 8 p.m. One-hour fire watch required.
• No smoking is allowed while traveling through or working in any operation area.
In addition, industrial fire precaution level 2 is in effect for portions of Hood River and Wasco counties.
Additional fire restrictions may apply. For a complete listing, check tinyurl.com/3yetaprd.
