Monument on “be ready” evacuation alert after Boneyard Fire grows to 800 acres

MONUMENT — The community of Monument was placed on a Level 1 “be ready” evacuation notice Thursday evening, July 18, after rapid growth by the nearby Boneyard Fire, county emergency mangers announced.
The Boneyard Fire, burning north of Monument, unexpectedly jumped containment lines Thursday afternoon and grew from 300 acres to 800 acres, the Grant County Emergency Management Office announced.
In coordination with the Oregon Department of Forestry, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office issued a series of notifications around the fire area from Level 3 “go now” to Level 2 “be set” and Level 1 “be ready.”
The city of Monument was in a Level 1, “be ready” advisory.
