JOHN DAY — Wyatt Suchorski is the recipient of the 2024 Delley Officer Award.

During the Grant County Fair, Suchorski was presented with a rotating trophy, a photo plaque and a Kershaw DWO knife, named in Officer’s honor, with a hunter safety insert.

Suchorski is a 2024 graduate of Dayville High School, where he was named class valedictorian.

Officer, who grew up in Izee, was killed in 1984 when a hunter mistook him for an elk.

The award is given each year to a local 4-H or FFA member who exhibits the qualities of courtesy and sportsmanship that Officer was known for.

Members are nominated by 4-H leaders and FFA advisers, then interviewed by a panel of members and friends of the Officer family, who select the winner.
