MONUMENT — While the 107,000-acre Rail Ridge Fire south of Dayville has been grabbing headlines, a smaller fire has sprung up in another part of the county.

The Two Cabin Fire is burning 4 miles northeast of Monument in the Briley Canyon drainage, between Briley and Steets mountains.

The fire is an estimated 251 acres and is 5% contained, with 147 firefighters assigned to battle the blaze, according to the InciWeb fire information website on Friday, Sept. 6.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
