Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office seizes 28 pounds of illegal drugs

LA PINE — The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office cited two people in La Pine after a traffic stop revealed more than 22 pounds of methamphetamine and 4.75 pounds of heroin.

The traffic stop happened on Sept. 14, when patrol deputies stopped Dawn Michelle Johnson, 57, of Canby, and Colin Timothy Sawyer, 32, of Salem along U.S. Highway 97 near Rosland Road. While the traffic stop was ongoing, Bend police arrived with a drug-sniffing dog, Bonnie, who alerted officers to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle. Police then searched the vehicle and found the drugs, according to a release from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.
Johnson and Sawyer face charges for unlawful possession of a controlled substances, police say, and were issued citations instead of being brought into custody.
