PENDLETON — Contrary to a Facebook post on the “Whats Happening Pendleton?” group page in the early afternoon of Tuesday, Nov. 19, no one was shot during an arrest by the Pendleton Police Department.

“We observed somebody that had a felony warrant for his arrest,” said Police Chief Charles Byram. “A taser was deployed, and he is now in jail.”

Byram said it’s another social media rumor.

The rumor also claimed that the supposed shooting occurred in front of Pioneer Relief Nursery, a local children’s nonprofit. According to staff at the nursery, that is also inaccurate. Staff members said they saw police activity but it “did not occur by our facility.”

Instead, they said, it was in front of the Hampton Inn. This was confirmed by Hampton Inn’s general manager, Sharane Scofield.

“We did see police activity because we had a gentleman trying to gain access through our back door,” Scofield said. “The police showed up.”

The pursuit crossed in multiple directions by the hotel, she said.
