PRAIRIE CITY — For one day each year, Prairie City magically transforms into the North Pole.

The day is known as Christmas on the Prairie. It’s a time to visit with friends and neighbors, get a little Christmas shopping done and celebrate the season Grant County style.

Organized by the Greater Prairie City Community Association, this year’s edition took place on Saturday, Nov. 23, with the theme “Merry and Bright.”

The Prairie City Community Center was the hub for most of the day’s events, including a performance of “A Wolf’s Christmas Carol” by a troupe of child actors and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Santa was also scheduled to lead the caroling at the lighting of the city Christmas tree.

The American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 106 hosted a Christmas bazaar in the cafeteria at Prairie City School, where vendors from around the area sold a wide variety of wares, and local businesses offered seasonal specials.

Other events included face painting, family photos, a student art contest, an ornament hunt and bingo.
