JOHN DAY — The Blue Mountain Ranger District on the Malheur National Forest has sound wood (pine, Douglas fir, larch and juniper) salvaged from material piled during operations during the Courtrock Fire.

The wood is stacked along Forest Service Roads 3950, 3955 and the 741 spur road. Members of the public with valid firewood permits may utilize the material for firewood.

To get to the piles, head north on Highway 395 from Mount Vernon to Grant County Road 88. Head west for approximately five miles and the road turns into Forest Service Road 3950.

Personal firewood permits can be obtained at any Malheur National Forest office. Personal use firewood permits are intended to be used for the collection of firewood and not other forest products.
