From the editor’s desk: It’s chilly out, but news is cooking

Published 9:00 am Saturday, December 14, 2024

Dear readers,

Articles on businesses draw attention, and one of the East Oregonian’s most popular online this week has been Yasser Marte’s report on the virtual shooting range coming to downtown Pendleton. In case you missed it, check it out here.

Reports on conflicts with local governments also tend to pique attention, and The Observer reporter Isabella Crowley is tackling one of those matters in “Window pains.”

And Baker City Herald editor Jayson Jacoby has a report on Baker County holding onto almost $4 million in property tax revenue in case three major corporate taxpayers prevail in their appeals that contend the Oregon Department of Revenue exaggerated the assessed value of their properties in Oregon, including in Baker County.

For a more holiday-themed article, check out Blue Mountain Eagle editor Bennett Hall’s feature, “The Basket Queen.”

And looking ahead, Wallowa County Chieftain reporter Bill Bradshaw has an account on the Wildlife Crossing Project in Wallowa County to reduce vehicle versus wildlife collisions on Highway 82.

As always, you can find more about community events and other news at each of our websites: East Oregonian, Baker City Herald, Blue Mountain Eagle, Hermiston Herald, The Observer and Wallowa County Chieftain.

With Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays on Wednesdays, we also want to let you know the print editions of the East Oregonian will publish on the Tuesdays before — Dec. 24 and Dec. 31.
