JOHN DAY — Just in time for the mid-winter blues, John Day/Canyon City Parks and Recreation to the rescue!
Not just one, but two annual fun-filled nights are on tap with the annual Father-Daughter Dance on Friday, Feb. 7, and Family Fun Night on Saturday, Feb. 8.
Both events will be from 6-8 p.m. in Trowbridge Pavilion at the Grant County Fairgrounds.
The Father-Daughter Dance, with the theme “Candyland,” is for girls in kindergarten through sixth grade and their favorite male figure. In addition to dancing, the evening’s activities include games, arts and crafts, a pasta bar and drinks.
So much fun for only $40 per couple. And just $5 more for each additional child attending.
The following evening, a “Fairy Tale” Family Fun Night, is devoted to families of children in grades 3-8. Activities include dancing, laser tag, arts and crafts, pizza and drinks. And new this year, there will be arcade-style games such as ball darts, air hockey, basketball and Skee-ball. Kids and parents, here’s a perfect opportunity for some family-friendly competition.
The cost is $25 per couple or $30 for a group of four.
A keepsake 5×7 photo is included with the admission cost at both events; families may purchase additional photos.
“Both events are an opportunity to bring families together, create cherished memories and strengthen our community,” said Ana DeVincentis, JD/CC Parks and Recreation office manager and executive assistant.
Tickets may be ordered online at jdccparksandrec.org. There’s a 20% discount for Family Fun Night for those who also attend the Father-Daughter Dance. Use the code FFN2025 at checkout.
DeVincentis said online ticket sales will close Monday, Feb. 3, but will still be available at the door. If people can’t access the website, she said they can purchase tickets in person at the parks and rec office, 845 NW Bridge St. in John Day. Office hours are generally 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday-Thursday, but she suggested calling ahead.
