CANYON CITY — The following information was taken from official records of the Grant County Circuit Court:
Feb. 28
Jayda Dubois, 22, of John Day, was placed on bench probation for one year for furnishing alcohol to a person under 21 and unlawful delivery of a marijuana item, both misdemeanors committed in the spring of 2024. She pleaded guilty to both charges on June 10, 2024, and was initially placed in a diversion program, but her diversion status was revoked in a hearing Feb. 28.
In addition to being placed on probation, Dubois was fined $700, ordered to perform 90 hours of community service or work crew time, directed to obtain a substance abuse assessment and complete all recommended treatment, and instructed to have no contact with minors and not use intoxicants.
In a separate case, Dubois pleaded guilty to violating a stalking protective order, a misdemeanor committed on Aug. 12. For that offense, she was given a suspended sentence and placed on bench probation for two years. Conditions of her probation include having no contact with the victim or the victim’s family, not using intoxicants, obtaining a mental health evaluation and taking all medications as prescribed.
A misdemeanor charge of unauthorized use of a vehicle against Jimmy Ray Wright, 55, of Mount Vernon, was dismissed. The charge was dismissed without prejudice, meaning it could be refiled.
Four misdemeanor counts of taking, angling, hunting or trapping in violation of a wildlife law or rule against Matthew Paul Binschus, 37, of John Day, were dismissed. Binschus had initially been charged with 10 counts of the same offense. He pleaded no contest to four of the counts and was placed in a diversion program, while the remaining six counts were dismissed. Court records show Binschus completed his diversion program for the initial four counts, which have now been dismissed.
Nola Pierson, 62, of John Day, was found to have violated her probation in a 2024 conviction for third-degree theft, a misdemeanor, by failing to complete a moral reconation therapy program and changing her address without notifying the court. Her probation was extended for another year, until Jan. 8, 2026. In addition, she was ordered to perform five hours of community service and enter a moral reconation therapy program within 10 days. If she completes the program, her probation will end early.
