Pros win slew of events at local meet

In the first meet hosted by Grant Union, the Prospector boys won with 171 points and the girls won with 187.

“I was very pleased with how they handled it – coming off spring break, long layoff,” said Grant Union Head Coach Sonna Smith. “Several of our kids did well.”
In both the 100 and 400 relays, the girls took second and the boys finished first. Angie Allen took third in the 1,500 and second in the 3,000. Audrey Lallatin and Shelby Long also placed in the 3,000, taking fifth and sixth respectively. Caleb Sturgill took first in the 1,500 and 3,000 while Brady Long placed third in the 1,500 and Rhett Elliott took third in the 3,000.
Dustin Kreger won the high jump.

Katelyn Page took third in javelin with Bree Wilson in fifth and Kiaya Wilson finishing sixth. Aaron Humbird placed second in javelin. Finishing fourth was Ben Dieker and Sam Rawlins sixth. In shotput, Katelyn Page took first place. Other placing athletes were Bree Wilson in fifth and Mandy Berry in sixth. James Webb took third place in shotput. Katelyn Page took sixth in discus and Cole Malley took fourth.
In the 400-meter run, Sabrina Hoffman took second with Danielle Barry placing third. Kiaya Wilson won the 500-meter run with Danielle Barry in second place. On the boy’s side, Joe Stinnett placed fourth and Miro Zadubenec placed sixth in the 400-meter run. Eric Coats took second in the 800 with Greg Whelan placing sixth.
Jeannie Allen took second in pole vault with Audrey Lallatin placing fourth. Andrew Judd also placed in pole vault, taking sixth.
Jacee Retherford won the long jump while Jyla Hill and Melissa Walker took second and third. The top five placers in girl’s triple jump were from Grant Union. Jyla Hill finished first with Jacee Retherford, Brianna Murphy-Johnston, Karina Hoffman and Melissa Walker placing second, third, fourth, and fifth respectively. Alex Bremner, Ben Dieker, and Jamison Soupir took third, fifth and sixth in the boy’s long jump while Alex Bremner won triple jump with Ben Dieker taking fourth.
Emily Johns took sixth in the 100-meter dash and Marc DesJardin place second and fifth respectively. Ryne and Connor Smith placed fourth and fifth in the 200.
Jacee Retherford and Jyla Hill placed second and third in the 100 meter hurdles with Sabrina Hoffman and Jacee Retherford taking third and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles.
Placers in the boy’s 110-meter hurdles were Dustin Kreger in second, Jamison Soupir in third and Andrew Judd in fifth. Dustin Kreger, Andrew Judd, and Jamison Soupir took third, fourth and fifth respectively in the 300 meter hurdles.
Grant Union hosts two small schools meets this season, and one Double Duals meet.
It was a sunny day in Nyssa when Grant Union pulled up on April 6. The temperature stayed at about 70 degrees throughout the day making it one of the first warm, sunny days of the spring. Despite hot temperatures and small numbers, Grant Union still placed high at the Nyssa Invitational. The Grant Union boys placed second and the girls were fourth in the meet.The boys took fourth in the 4×100 relay and second in the 4×400. The girls placed third in the 4×100 and fourth in the 4×400. In the 1500 meter run, Rhett Elliot took second, and Hunter Bom placed seventh. Rhett Elliot took fifth and Hunter Bom placed seventh again in the 3000 meter run. Angle Alien placed fifth in the 3000.
Finishers in sixth place were Marc DesJardin in the 200 meter dash, and Connor Smith and Danielle Barry in the 400. Greg Whelan placed fourth in the 800 meter run, with Kiaya Wilson and Danielle Barry placing second and third in the 800.
Dustin Kreger won the 110 hurdles with Andrew Judd placing fourth. Andrew Judd and Dustin Kreger also placed third and seventh in the 300 meter hurdles. Jacee Retherford placed third and eighth in the 100 and 300 hurdles. Dustin Kreger took 4th in high jump. Andrew Judd and Ethan Bellinger took fifth and seventh in pole vault. Jeannie Alien also placed in pole vault, tying for fourth.
Isaac Whitman took eighth in triple jump. Jacee Retherford placed second and fifth in triple and long jump with Jyla Hill placing fourth in triple jump.
Ben Dieker won javelin with Aaron Humbird placing third. Grant Union now has the top two boys in state in javelin, Dieker and Jimmy Cook, who was not at the Nyssa meet.Katelyn Page took third in shotput and fourth in javelin.
Grant Union’s next meet will be Friday, April 13 in Baker, which is followed by a meet in Bums on Saturday, April 14.
