Monument’s Kyla Emerson places fifth in 100M hurdles

Monument freshman Kyla Emerson finished in fifth place in her first hurdle event at the 2016 State Track and Field Championships in Eugene Friday.

Emerson finished the 100-meter high hurdles in a time of 17.89. Ione’s Jessie Flynn won with a time of 16.30.

Emerson earned 4 points for the Monument girls team, currently in seventh place with 19 points after 12 events scored.

She also qualified to compete in the 300-meter hurdles, scheduled for 7:42 p.m. Friday.

Teammate Sophie Pettit won the 100-meter dash and had the best preliminary time in the 200-meter dash, qualifying for the finals scheduled at 7:12 p.m. Friday.
