- Bill Shank, 62, and Jenny Daffer, 25, ski at Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort on Saturday, Dec. 10. Shank is the director of the ski school at Anthony Lakes and began teaching Daffer to ski less than a year ago after she moved to Oregon from the Philippines.
The John Day-Canyon City Parks and Recreation will again offer their Ski and Snowboard Bus Program to Anthony Lakes Ski Area.
Trips are scheduled for three Saturdays in the new year, including Jan. 13, Jan. 27 and Feb. 3.
Julie Larson, who is coordinating the trips, said ski packages could be purchased for all three of the dates, or just one or two. She’s encouraging participants to travel on all three ski bus trips, if possible.
“It’s a great sport for individuals and for families to enjoy together,” Larson said.
The youth package No. 1 is $40 and includes lift, lesson and rental; youth package No. 2 is lift and lesson for $30; tiny tot package No. 3 for ages 6 and under is $65 (includes lift ticket, rental and private instruction with $20 for three trips); adult package No. 4 includes lift and Nordic for $25; adult package No. 5 has lift or Nordic pass and rental for $35; and package No. 6 includes the bus ride only.
Larson is asking those interested to register at least a week prior to the travel date.
Larson is taking over for former coordinator Gregg Whipple, and she said Whipple is still involved.
Register online for the ski packages at https://jdccparksandrec.weebly.com or through the local schools.
