Page picked to play

JOHN DAY – Nolin Page, 18, was selected to participate in the All-Star Basketball Series in June and as an alternate in the East/West Shrine Game on Aug. 15 in Baker City.

The recent Grant Union graduate is 6 foot 4 inches. He played football (wide receiver), basketball (post) and track at GU. He participated in the 4×100, 200 meter, 100 meter and javelin in track.

He will go to University of Idaho in August, where he will play football. He plans to study to be a history teacher.

“I want to get a good education so I won’t be a loser,” he said.

Nolin is the son of Rick Page of John Day and Gale and Donna Speakman of Mt. Vernon. He has three siblings, Will, Tyler and Katelyn Page.

He credits his athletic skills and competitive nature, in part, to his older brothers.

“I played (basketball) with them. They made me better,” Page said.

He started playing basketball in the third grade and football in the seventh grade.

His hobbies are playing basketball, eating and hanging out with friends. His favorite color is green. His favorite movie is “Braveheart.” His favorite food is steak, medium rare.

Page is piling brush for Grayback this summer.

The All-Star Basketball was June 16 and 17 at Chemeketa Community College and Wilsonville High. Page played post. The West won the first game, 132-120. Page scored four points. The next day, the East won, 102-97. Page scored 6 points.

“It was loads of fun,” Page said.

The East/West Shrine Game is on Aug. 15 in Baker City. The first practice will be Aug. 1.

“I never thought I’d be here. I’m very excited,” Nolin said. “It’s amazing.”
