PRAIRIE CITY — It takes time to establish a tradition.

But in just five years, the Prairie City Fiber Fest seems well on its way to doing that.

This year’s Fiber Fest, scheduled to run from Friday, July 28, to Sunday, July 30, will feature more than a dozen workshops in which attendees can learn to weave, basket weave, spin and master other skills associated with turning brightly colored wool into beautifully finished projects.

Along with the workshops, over 20 vendors will be on site. Fiber Fest attendees will have the opportunity to purchase fleeces, natural fibers and equipment, and unique handcrafted items from the vendors making the trek to Prairie City.

Friday, July 28, features a full slate of workshops, starting at 8 a.m. and continuing until 6 p.m.

The festival will open to the general public at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, with workshops starting at 9 a.m. and concluding at 4 p.m.

Vendors will be on site on Saturday and will sell items until the conclusion of the day’s events at 5 p.m. A social hour specifically for vendors, volunteers and instructors will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Events on Sunday, July 30, get underway at 9 a.m., with workshops running from then until 4 p.m. The festival will open to the public at 10 a.m. on Sunday and will be closed to the public at 4 p.m.
