VALE — A section of Highway 20 that had been blocked by a landslide has been reopened to one lane of travel, the Oregon Department of Transportation announced on Wednesday, June 14.
Pilot cars will escort motorists through the restricted-travel area, about 10 miles east of Juntura. It had been closed since Sunday, June 11, when a slide deposited a large amount of debris on the roadway.
Delays of up to 20 minutes can be expected, and weather conditions could still cause temporary closures as work to clear the highway continues, ODOT warned. The agency asked motorists to drive slowly and be extra-cautious in the work zone.
ODOT hopes to have both lanes open by the end of the week.
Crews from ODOT, Malheur County, utility companies and others have been working since the weekend to reopen the road, according to a news release.
