Grant Union, Prairie City track see individual state placers

EUGENE — The Grant Union and Prairie City track squads both had individual state placers at the OSAA 1A and 2A track championships held on Thursday, May 25, and Friday, May 26, at Hayward Field in Eugene.
In Class 1A, Prairie City’s Eli Wright left Eugene with a pair of top-four finishes at the state meet. Wright was the state runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.02 seconds and the fourth-place finisher in the javelin with a throw of 47.63 meters.
The Panther boys finished near the top quarter of the field, placing 12th out of 43 teams with 20 team points. The Panthers were just two team points away from a top 10 finish. Everybody was chasing eventual champion Adrian, which finished with 57 team points.
Prairie City didn’t log a team score in the girls competition.
In the Class 2A competition, Grant Union senior Riddick Hutchison was the school’s lone individual placer. Hutchison finished third in the javelin with a throw of 48.28 meters.
The Grant Union girls logged a team score even though it had no individual top four finishers. The Prospector girls finished in 26th place with 3.5 team points. Eventual 2A girls state champion Bandon finished with 61 team points.
The boys finished in 25th place with 8 team points. 2A state boys champions East Linn Christian finished the meet with 53 team points.
