Circuit Court
The Grant County Circuit Court reported the following activity for the week ending May 24:
May 19
Ian Coombs, 19, of John Day pleaded guilty to assault in the fourth degree and driving under the influence of intoxicants, both committed on Jan. 11. He was placed on bench probation for 18 months and was ordered to complete 40 hours of community service or county work crew, was ordered to not publicly or privately use intoxicants, obtain a substance abuse assessment, complete a victim impact panel program, not enter an establishment serving alcohol and install an ignition interlock device. Coombs was ordered to pay fines and fees totaling $2,255, though the amount was reduced to $755.
Devon Pierce Pace, 22, of John Day pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of intoxicants, committed on Aug. 22, 2021. He was placed on bench probation for 18 months and was ordered to obtain a substance abuse assessment, not enter an establishment serving alcohol, complete 80 hours of community service or county work crew, complete a victim impact panel program, not publicly use intoxicants and install and ignition interlock device. Pace was ordered to pay a DUII fine of $1,000, though the amount was reduced to $500.

The Oregon State Police John Day Outpost reported the following activity for the week ending May 24:
May 20
6:56 p.m.: Trooper assisted Grant County Sheriff’s Office with a domestic violence call. The deputy and trooper arrested Jessica Anne Shawn-Thomas, 30, John Day, and she was taken to the Grant County Jail. While at the jail, an open wound was found on the suspect and she was taken to Blue Mountain Hospital. While at the hospital, the suspect reportedly was uncooperative, kicked the trooper in the face and damaged hospital property. Shawn-Thomas was charged with assault in the fourth degree, assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and criminal mischief and was transported back to the jail.
May 23
1:21 p.m.: Trooper arrested Scott Lloyd Lee, 29, Mt. Vernon, on an outstanding Deschutes County warrant. Lee was transported to the Grant County Jail.
