JOHN DAY — A school bus transporting the Grant Union/Prairie City boys wrestling team to dual meets in Echo was struck by another vehicle and slid off the road,  Grant Union Jr./Sr. High School announced in a Facebook post on Friday, Jan. 31.

The post highlighted icy conditions as the cause of the accident and said there were no injuries to the team as a result of the crash.

“As far as we’re aware, our kids, coaching staff and bus driver are unharmed,” Grant Union Jr./Sr. High School Athletic Director Andy Lusco said.

It was not known if anyone in the vehicle that collided with the bus was hurt.

The school said an additional bus was dispatched to bring the team home following the incident and that the Oregon State Police transported the team to the Dale Store in an effort to get them out of the cold.

“Our athletes are safe and warm in the Dale Store!” the school said in comments on the original post.

A later update said that the school bus had arrived at the Dale Store and the students were expected to be back at Grant Union Jr./Sr. High School between noon and 12:30 p.m. Friday.
