Semitrailer hits, kills two men Dec. 8 on Interstate 84 in Pendleton

PENDLETON — Two Pendleton men died Sunday, Dec. 8, when a semitrailer struck them as they walked along Interstate 84.

Oregon State Police reported John Charles Harrington, 25, and Marcus Anthony Paul, 24, died at the scene.
According to OSP, troopers on Dec. 8 at 10:09 a.m. responded to a commercial motor vehicle versus pedestrian crash on Interstate 84 near milepost 210 at Pendleton.
The preliminary investigation indicated a westbound Volvo semi and trailer left the slow lane for unknown reasons, struck the guardrail and hit Harrington and Paul before traveling down a steep embankment and rolling onto its side.

According to OSP, Harrington and Paul died at the scene.
Phill Culp, 59, of Vancouver, was the driver. State police reported he suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
The on-scene investigation affected traffic at the site for five hours. Oregon State Police reported the cause of the crash is under investigation.
