MAGONE LAKE — The body of an Arkansas man was recovered from Magone Lake one day after his reported disappearance, according to information from the Grant County Sheriff’s office.
Luke Litwiller, 24, of Dumas, Arkansas, was reported missing and presumed drowned to the Grant County dispatch center at around 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23. He was last seen swimming alone near the middle of Magone Lake, about 10 miles northwest of Prairie City.
Multiple agencies responded to the area and reported that nobody had exited the lake.
On Tuesday, Sept. 24, Litwiller’s body was recovered from the lake by search team members.
Litwiller was a fire contractor who had been working at the Long Creek fire camp.
“I would like to thank all members of the community who came forward with boats and volunteered their time searching, as well as the various agencies that participated in the recovery effort,” Sheriff Todd McKinley said in a press release. “Many came together and helped this affected family gain some closure to this tragic event.”
