SILVIES — The Retreat at Silvies Valley Ranch is gearing up for the 2024 Harney vs. Grant County Battle, scheduled for June 15 on the Hankins Course at the resort south of Silvies off Highway 395.
The annual benefit golf tournament pits four-person teams from each county against each other to raise money to support local high school golf teams and a scholarship fund for prep golfers.
The money is divvied up between the two counties based on participation rates, which county wins and other factors, said Patrick Frits, the director of marketing and sales for the resort. Last year’s tournament raised $7,488 for golf at Burns High School and $9,152 for golf at Grant Union and Prairie City high schools.
“The main thing is we just want people to know about the scholarship,” Frits said.
“There’s a lot of money on the table for people to go to trade school or college or whatever their heart’s set on.”
Check-in begins at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at 12:45 p.m. for the tournament, a four-person gross scramble with a best ball format.
The registration fee is $120 per person and includes greens fees, cart fees, range balls, lunch and a post-tourney barbecue, plus $50 for those who want the optional “fun and games” package.
Entry rules are fairly loose — for instance, only one member of each team needs to be from the county they’re playing for, and ringers are encouraged.
Participation is limited to the first 28 paid teams.
