Pros split games during weekThe Grant Union Prospector boys basketball team won one game and lost a pair in this week’s action.
The Pros opened the week with a dominant 81-56 league win over Weston-McEwen on Monday, Jan. 22, in Athena.
On Friday, Jan. 26, Grant Union suffered a tough 71-70 loss to Heppner at home (see full story on this page).
The Pros then traveled to Enterprise for a league matchup with the Outlaws on Saturday, Jan. 27, coming up just short in a 57-53 losing effort for their second consecutive defeat. The slate of games for the week leave the Pros at 11-7 on the season with a 3-3 record in the Blue Mountain Conference.
The Pros will look to get over the .500 mark in league play when they travel to Stanfield on Friday, Feb. 2. Start time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Lady Pros drop a pairThe Grant Union girls basketball team continues to work, even as the losses continue to mount.
The Lady Prospectors started the week off with a league showdown against Weston-McEwen on Monday, Jan. 22, falling 54-15 in Athena.
On Friday, Jan. 26, the team made a stronger showing against Heppner but still came out on the wrong end of a 61-32 score (see full story on this page).
The Lady Pros traveled to Enterprise on Saturday, Jan. 27, and fell to the Lady Outlaws 55-15.
The losses leave the team at 1-17 on the year with an 0-6 record in league play. The Lady Pros will look to add another win to their season total when they travel to Stanfield on Friday, Feb. 2. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Panthers earn split, creep toward .500The Prairie City/Burnt River boys basketball team went 1-1 in games played during the week and inched closer to a .500 record as they work to come back from an eight-game skid earlier in the season.
The Panthers welcomed Huntington to town on Thursday, Jan. 25, and sent the Locomotives home the victims of a 69-15 mauling. The win pushed Prairie City to 9-9 on the season with a 2-0 record in High Desert League play.
Two days later the Panthers hosted top-ranked Crane and dropped an 80-42 decision. The loss pushed the Panthers back under .500 at 9-10 and handed the team its first league loss of the season.
The Panthers will look to rebound when they take on Dayville/Monument on Friday, Feb. 2, in Prairie City. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Lady Panthers go 1-1 to fall to .500The Prairie City/Burnt River girls basketball team went 1-1 last week, earning a dominant victory in one instance and suffering a thorough defeat in the other.
The Lady Panthers opened the week at home against Huntington on Thursday, Jan. 25, picking up a convincing 32-14 win in front of their home crowd. The victory lifted the Lady Panthers to 9-8 on the season with a perfect 1-0 record in league play.
Two days later, on Saturday, Jan. 27, the team traveled to Crane and were sent home the victims of a thorough, 74-7 defeat. The loss snapped a three-game wining streak for the Lady Panthers, dropping them to 9-9 on the season with a 1-1 record in High Desert League play. The Lady Panthers will look to get back into the win column when they travel to Monument to take on the Lady Tigers on Friday, Feb. 2. Tipoff for that game is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Dayville/Monument boys lose two straightThe Dayville/Monument boys basketball team lost a pair of games to end the week on a three game losing streak.
The Tigers first hosted Pilot Rock at Monument High School on Wednesday, Jan. 24, coming home the victims of a 73-51 loss. A mere two days later, the Tigers traveled to Huntington and left with a close, eight point 39-31 loss for their third loss in as many games.
The two losses leave the Tigers at 1-15 on the season with a 1-3 record in league play. The Tigers will look to snap that three-game slide on Friday, Feb.2 when they host Prairie City/Burnt River.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Lady Tigers snap seven-game losing streakThe Dayville/Monument girls basketball team won their first game in seven outings while going 1-1 last week.
The Lady Tigers played Pilot Rock on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at Monument High School, winning a close 49-43 game to snap a seven-game losing streak that started on Dec. 18, 2023. The Lady Tigers would travel to Huntington for a non-league game with the Lady Locomotives on Friday, Jan. 26, losing by a slim three points, 26-23.
Dayville/Monument is 4-13 on the season with an 0-3 record in High Desert League play. The Lady Tigers will look for their first league win of the season when they visit Prairie City/Burnt River on Friday, Feb. 2.
Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Grant Union Gold named team of the monthThe Grant Union Gold dance/drill team has been selected as Les Schwab’s Class 2A team of the month for January. The OSAA website notes that each winning team was chosen based on performance, dedication to the classroom and service to the community.
Winners of the award (one per classification) will receive a commemorative trophy and a $100 donation to the team, courtesy of Les Schwab. Winning teams will also be celebrated at their local Les Schwab Tire Center.
