CANYON CITY — The John Day Elks Lodge hosted its annual local Hoop Shoot for kids at the Humbolt Elementary School gym in Canyon City on Saturday, Dec. 9.

The Elks Hoop Shoot is a basketball competition for kids. At the event, the kids were divided into three age groups — 8 to 9, 10 to 11 and 12 to 13 — with boys and girls shooting free throws at both ends of the gym.

The winners of the local Hoop Shoot will go on to a district event to be held at Grant Union High School in January. District winners will move on to the regional competition with a chance to compete in the national finals.
