Dayville’s Rowdy Israel continues to collect tiaras.
The current Oregon High School Rodeo queen finds herself in a familiar position: wearing two queen crowns. Israel was the queen of the Elgin Stampede while being the queen of the Oregon Rodeo High School Association in 2022. She also finished 17th out of 41 competitors for the title of National High School Rodeo Association queen in July.
Now Israel has paired her Oregon High School Rodeo queen title with the title of Spray Rodeo queen. Israel won the honor of representing the Wheeler County event on Saturday, Oct. 14.
Israel will wear both crowns into 2024, with her Oregon High School Rodeo queen duties ending in June and her Spray Rodeo queen obligation running until October.
Israel said the demands of the Spray queen competition were a little less than what she’d had to do in past competitions.
“I only had to do a personal interview and a horsemanship competition for Spray,” she said.
Being a double-crowned queen can present challenges when it comes to scheduling and other obligations. For now, Israel said the dual crowns don’t have overlapping obligations.
“As of right now it all lines up fine,” she said.
A trap shooting fundraiser is in the works to help cover travel fees associated with Israel’s Spray Rodeo queen title. The details are still being worked out, but the event has a hard start date of Saturday, Nov. 18, according to Israel’s mother, Nicole.
Part of Israel’s duties as Spray Rodeo queen is an appearance at the 2024 Spray Rodeo, which will be held in late May.
“I am so excited to represent this small town rodeo Memorial Day weekend,” she said about the appearance.
Is the dual queen honor the end of Israel’s pursuit of another crown? It is for now — but not forever.
“In the future I plan on trying out for more courts, yes. … I won’t try out for anything more until later in the fall of 2024,” she said.
Israel is aware she has a legion of admirers in Grant County and expressed her gratitude.
“Thank you for all the community support,” she said. “See you all Memorial Day weekend in Spray, Oregon, at the one and only Spray Rodeo.”
