Lady Pro volleyball goes 6-1 in busy week

JOHN DAY — The Grant Union Lady Prospector volleyball team played seven matches over the last week, going 6-1 to improve to 12-4 on the season.

The Lady Pros visited league foe Stanfield on Thursday, Sept. 14. The Lady Pros fell 3-2 with game scores of 21-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-15 and 17-15.

The Grant Union squad spent the next two days at the East-West Classic at Powder Valley High School, notching a perfect 6-0 record at the tournament. The Lady Pros played host Powder Valley, Union and Imbler on Friday, Sept. 15.

The Lady Pros defeated Powder Valley 2-1 with game scores of 16-25, 26-24 and 15-8. Next up for the Lady Pros was Union, which fell 2-0. Both games in the match were 25-17 Lady Pro wins. The final action on Friday for the Lady Pros was a 2-1 win over Imbler. Game scores for the match were 25-23, 21-25 and 15-12.

The Lady Pros continued their dominant play into Saturday, Sept. 16, with wins over Crosshill Christian, Joseph and South Wasco County.

Crosshill Christian was dispatched 2-0 with game scores of 27-25 and 25-14. Joseph also ended in a 2-0 win for the Lady Pros with game scores of 25-17 and 25-14.

The final match of the East-West Classic for the Lady Pros was a 2-0 win over South Wasco County. Game scores were 25-21 and 26-24.

The Lady Pros will be in action Friday, Sept. 22, when they host Trinity Lutheran at Prairie City High School. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Grant Union soccer falls to Echo/Stanfield

JOHN DAY — The Grant Union girls soccer team played the fifth game of its inaugural season against Echo/Stanfield on Friday, Sept. 15, at Grant Union High School and fell 8-0. The squad will continue seeking its first win of the season when it welcomes Irrigon on Thursday, Sept. 21. The game is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start time.

Lady Panthers go

2-1 during week

PRAIRIE CITY — The Prairie City/Burnt River Lady Panther volleyball team improved to 9-3 on the season following matches this past week. The team played a slate of three games at the Condon Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 16, going 2-1.

The first match was a 2-0 win over Central Christian with game scores of 25-13 and 25-21. The Lady Panthers then took on Spray/Mitchell/Wheeler, defeating them 2-0 with game scores of 25-13 and 25-9.

The final match of the Condon Tournament for the Lady Panthers was a 2-0 loss to Trinity Lutheran. Game scores for that match were 25-7 and 25-16.

The Lady Panthers will seek their 10th win of the season on Friday, Sept. 22, in a home rematch with Trinity Lutheran. A start time for the game is yet to be determined.

Tigers lose two this week

DAYVILLE — The Dayville/Monument/Long Creek volleyball team lost a pair of matches this week against Prairie City/Burnt River and Spray/Mitchell/Wheeler on Friday, Sept. 15 and Saturday, Sept. 16.

The home match Friday, Sept. 15, against Prairie City/Burnt River resulted in a 3-0 loss for the Lady Tigers with game scores of 25-8, 25-10 and 25-10.

The next day, the Lady Tigers traveled to Spray/Mitchell/Wheeler for a non-league matchup, falling 2-1 in that match. Game scores against Spray/Mitchell/Wheeler were 22-25, 25-8 and 15-13.

The losses drop the Lady Tigers to 1-7 overall with a 1-2 record in league play.

The team will look to get back on track Saturday, Sept. 23, when it travels to Crane High School for a league match against Harper Charter. Tipoff is scheduled for noon.
