DAYVILLE – Sarah Herve, education program manager at the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, announces a new service provided through Feb. 25 that allows students of all ages, including teachers and homeschoolers, to access a Web site that offers a virtual field trip on fossil history.
The nationwide eField Trips is an interactive Web site on which John Day Fossil Beds’s field trip premiered Feb. 9. The first field trip program focuses on fossils found at the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument – a story of ecological change that includes plants and animals no longer found here in Oregon. Participants are encouraged to register soon for the progressive “field trip” adventure, which includes a question-and-answer session and live interaction during a Web chat with experts from the John Day Fossil Beds on Feb. 25.
“The thing that is going to be great for Grant County students, is that, through the eField Trip site, they can take part in a virtual field trips of our local fossil beds as well as field trips offered by other national parks,” says Herve. Teachers can open the door for students to travel via the Internet to other exciting locations posted on the Web site.
