MONUMENT — We had a wonderful meal of baked beef burritos, Spanish rice, fresh green salad, and all the fixings to go with the burritos. Our delicious dessert was chocolate cheesecake brownies with cherries. We thank our cooks,
Terry Cade and Christy Howell, for the fabulous meal!
Our greeters at the table were Bob Cockrell and Sue Cavender. They checked in all the guests, collected, and counted the money. Jan Ensign filled out the paperwork. Bob led us in the flag salute and made the announcements. Yours truly prayed the blessing over the meal.
We had two special door prizes, which were won by Jeanne Strange and Jean Hammel. Another announcement was that mobility devices are available to borrow for anyone in need, such as after surgery. Also, donations for the Monument Rummage Sale are now being accepted. Please donate only gently used items. Thank you.
Don’t forget about the EMT dinner on Saturday, May 3. There will be two dinner seatings: one from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. and the other from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. There will be live and silent auctions, as well as a dessert auction. We hope you all come out to support our wonderful EMTs!

Well, I finally got some baby goats. Of course, they started giving birth when I had to go to Bend! Fern gave birth to one baby, but it was breech, and my son had to pull it out backward. The next baby was stuck. My kids tried to pull it out, but to no avail. I got home after 10 p.m. and went down to help Fern. I prayed for the Lord’s wisdom, and I was able to get my hand in her and pull the head up toward the birth canal because the head was tucked under. The baby was already dead, but I couldn’t get a good grip to pull it out.
As I sat there praying, Fern started pushing, and the baby’s head popped out. I helped her by pulling. The baby had its whole body twisted inside Fern, which was why it was stuck. Since Fern couldn’t care for her first baby and nearly squished it a few times, the kids decided to bring it up to the house. Now, Lucky is a bottle baby.
Lucky is a cute little buckling. He loves to sit on your lap and look down on all the others as if to say, “I am king of the world, and all the rest below me are peasants!” Lucky looks like a little puppy to me because his ears come forward. He’s black and white, and he does act like a little puppy. My daughter thinks he looks like a cow.
I have four bottle babies so far, and they are all very sweet. I’ll share more about the babies later.
Matthew 24:29 – Immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give her light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
PRAIRIE CITY — Yeah — I thought I was over that “bug” that had invaded my system. It came back and affected other parts of my body! Hopefully the invasion has made it through our meal and other duties, and I feel much better today. Hope that is all for this year! I’m tired of being sick!
Gwynne led the flag salute, and Pastor Phipps asked the blessing. The free meal was awarded to Jimmy Lunzman. Our volunteers included Sharon, Mary, Teresa, Tom, Lauri and Pam. Thank you all for all you do.
The cooks decided that the room needed some sprucing up, so they got some new tablecloths and rearranged a few of the tables. To add to the decor, there were a few bouquets from Jack and Bonnie Pickle’s memorial service on the tables. Thank you so much, Marcia.

Our meal started with Shipwreck Casserole. Now you have to let your imagination work here. Picture the galley on a ship. The potatoes, meat and vegetables are ready to be cooked, and the ship encounters turbulence. The ingredients all fall together, and that’s what makes a Shipwreck Casserole. It was very tasty and filling. To accompany it was a green salad, green beans, cottage cheese with pears, tapioca pudding, strawberries and an assortment of cakes and pies.
Ginger reported that on this date in 1616, William Shakespeare died. He was only 52 years old. (So how much have you accomplished in your span on this earth?) She also said that it was on this date that the Chicago Cubs played their first major league baseball game in 1914. Both Shakespeare and the Chicago Cubs are still going strong!
Our Prairie City maintenance supervisor wants to remind you to obey the rules concerning the Prairie City burn pile. Please do not take your household garbage or remodeling scraps to the burn pile. It is only for yard debris, prunings, grass clippings, weeds from the garden and flower beds. Please, we don’t want to lose this service.
The seed packets tell us not to plant until after the last frost in spring before the first frost in the fall. When it frosts every month in our area, it is kind of hard to determine what the proper date is. General rule: somewhere between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. The perennials are all up and going, so I need to get their beds weeded! And pray that I won’t get sick again!
Matthew 13:41: The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil.
