McKalee’s Team offers Dimes walk in Grant County

CANYON CITY – After two years of participating in walks in Baker City, McKalee Madden’s Team is sponsoring a walk for Grant County residents to benefit the March of Dimes.

The McKalee Madden March for Babies Walk, scheduled in conjunction with ’62 Days, will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 7. Registration starts at 8 a.m.

The walk is named in honor of McKalee Madden, who was born May 29, 2003, to Tim and Lindsay Madden of John Day. She died a few hours later due to complications of a premature birth.

The Maddens’ son Brogan was born a year later, and also premature, but is doing well. His mom describes him as a “healthy, bright, 4-year-old boy.”

The Grant County event grew out of the commitment that the Maddens and their friends have had to the March of Dimes, which funds research and education on premature babies and other children’s health issues.

There will be two routes: a 2-mile event from Sels Brewery to the Velvet Touch Car Wash and back, and a 4.8-mile event from Sels through Southeast Dayton Street to Main Street and back to Sels.

There will be two rest stops with water, fruit and refreshments for free.

People are invited to join McKalee’s Team, start their own teams, sponsor walkers, or donate online to the cause.
