BMCC courses range from arc welding to the Chinese culture

JOHN DAY – Blue Mountain Community College announces its fall classes, which includes weekend courses focusing on relationships.
Christy Rhue Waldner, a domestic relations mediator, will present “Relationship Solutions” during two-day workshops, which take place 7-9 p.m. Friday evenings and continue 8 a.m.-noon Saturdays. Three classes will be offered: Creating Romantic Love, Oct. 24-25; Roadblocks to Intimacy, Nov. 21-22; and Developing Your Love for Each Other, Dec. 19-20. Tuition per course is $30 a person or $50 a couple.
A Chinese Odyssey will be instructed by world-traveler Madeline Howard, who lived in Taiwan for 10 years. Topics will include multi-lingual conversation skills, business and travel opportunities in China and Chinese art. Tuition is $50 for this course which runs from Oct. 27 to Dec. 1, 6:30-8 p.m. on Mondays.
Other upcoming job training and courses include the following:
Introduction to Arc Welding, Nov. 3-17 taught by Boyd Britton and GUHS ag teacher Bryce Meyer. Tuition $75.
Computer Survival Skills, Nov. 20-Dec. 4 taught by Terri Meyer, business and computer educator. Tuition $55.
Burn Plans on Wildlands, November, taught by Kendall Derby, prescribed fire specialist. Tuition $80.
A full EMT-Basic class will be offered by the Blue Mountain Hospital Volunteer Ambulance. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays November through April; Saturday class time will be scheduled once a month. Cost is around $900, but grants are available. Instructor T.R. Hilton has applied for 20 positions and encourages interested people not to let the cost be prohibitive. The course is open to people 18 and older who are physical fit, have current immunizations and have an Oregon driver’s license.
