Former Prairie City resident Max E. Waldon, 71, of Linn Creek, Mo., died Oct. 9 at Osage Beach, Mo.

He was born Jan. 22, 1932, in Kansas City, Kan., to Manford and June (Peterson) Waldon. He was raised at Prairie City, where he was one of the 12 graduates in Prairie City High School’s Class of 1950.

Mr. Waldon served in the U.S. Air Force and after an honorable discharge, he made his home in Independence, Mo.

On Nov. 7, 1964, he was united in marriage to Marja Parker. The couple also resided at Des Moines, Iowa, where he owned/operated the Parker Vacuum Cleaner Supply Company for several years. He and his wife studied with the New Tribes Mission for several years. They made their home in Wisconsin, Iowa and the Northwest. In 1999, they retired and moved to Linn Creek, Mo.

Mr. Waldon was a member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and bird watching. He enjoyed spending time with his family and attended the New Life Church in Camdenton, Mo.

Mr. Waldon is survived by his wife, Marja, of Linn Creek, Mo.; five sons and three daughters-in-law, Garry and Debra Waldon of Des Moines, Iowa, Jim Waldon, of Seattle, Wash., Jeff and Roxy Waldon of Camdenton, Mo., Bill and Mindy Waldon of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Greg Waldon, of Phoenix, Ariz.; stepson, Ken Briggs of Denver, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandson; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Willard Raines of Prairie City; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sons, Bruce and Bobby Waldon.

A graveside service officiated by Pastor Jeffrey Fletcher was held Oct. 13 in Allee Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Escorts for the service were Aaron Waldon, Bill Waldon, Garry Waldon, Garry Waldon Jr., Jeff Waldon and Jim Waldon. A Celebration of Life also was held Oct. 13 in the New Life Church of the Nazarene, Camdenton, Mo.

Memorial contributions can be made in his name to the Gideon Bible Ministry or the Max E. Waldon Missionary Fund in care of Allee-Holman Funeral Home in Camdenton.
