Robert Arthur “Bob” Rehder, 75, of Ritter died Sept. 25 at his ranch.

He was born April 28, 1928, to Einer H. and Lilly (Deck) Rehder in Mt. Vernon.

Mr. Rehder grew up in Mt. Vernon, where he was educated. He worked at a sawmill and for various ranchers in Fox Valley.

In 1949, he began employment with the Malheur National Forest and Lee Cameron of Ritter was his supervisor. He was invited to the Cameron home and met Mr. Cameron’s daughter, Janice. They married on Jan. 28, 1950. For a short time they lived on a ranch near Mt. Vernon, then moved to Ritter in 1951, where they ranched. As he continued to work in the timber and engineering industry. His vast knowledge of land issues, engineering and wildlife were noted as exemplary.

Mr. Rehder was an avid fisherman and hunter who loved teaching his children and grandchildren those skills. He enjoyed family vacations, hunting in Canada and fishing in Alaska, and took pride in caring for animals on the ranch.

Mr. Rehder is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janice Rehder of Ritter; two daughters and sons-in-law: Belinda and Larry Ellis of Pilot Rock and Benita and Tony Britt of Baker City; two sons and daughter-in-law, William and D’Anne Rehder of Pendleton and Bob Rehder Jr. of Ritter; grandchildren: Brandi, Byron, Kristi, Kim and Tonita; great-grandchildren: Dallas, Paris and Shaylee; and special friend Jack Bee of Ritter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Vernon.

Disposition was by cremation. A private celebration of his life will be held later at his ranch.
