JOHN DAY – Jamison Soupir of Prairie City and Randy Dowdy of John Day received the honor to serve as staff members at Camp Grizzly, a Scout camp located at Harvard, Idaho.
They were chosen by the Inland Northwest Council based in Spokane, Wash., and began a week of Staff-In Training on June 29. Soupir and Dowdy worked with Cub Scouts the first week of camp and will soon assist Boy Scouts, including 16 Scouts and six adults from the local Troop 898.
Soupir’s main interest is in environmental science while Dowdy focuses his skills on archery. They also are prepared to assist in the trading post, kitchen or other areas of camp life. Their stint as camp staff will end on Aug. 9.
In February, Soupir and Dowdy applied for the positions, and provided recommendations of their Scoutmaster and three references.
