HAINES – The T&T Wildlife Tours begins operations Dec. 13 to provide elk viewing at the Elkhorn Wildlife Area, approximately seven miles west of North Powder in Baker County. Annually, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife feed about 150-250 head of Rocky Mountain elk.
Providing the only horse-drawn elk-viewing opportunity in the state of Oregon, viewers of all ages can enjoy this unique outdoor experience. The wagon is wheelchair accessible and often gets participants to within 10 feet of the elk, some of which are big-branch antlered bulls.
Since 1991, Alice Trindle and Susan Triplett have offered this service and they employ horsepower from their teams of black Percherons and Belgians.
Tours are offered weekends at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m, Dec. 13 through Feb. 29. The holiday schedule runs Dec. 26-28 and Jan. 2-4. School groups and special tours can be arranged.
