Prairie City Seniors: Green bean canning ongoing

Published 5:00 pm Tuesday, August 13, 2002

Gardens are ripening, and canning season is here. June Clift told us that she and her daughter, Barbara, have been canning string beans and more string beans.

Our set-up crew on Aug. 7 was Amos Caldwell, Buzz Harris, Carl Johns and Marvin Casebeer. Clayton Curtis was absent from the crew enjoying his and Beverly’s wedding anniversary at the coast.

June Waldon and Ruth Johns were at the reception desk greeting Lorna Ashmead, Shawna Morin, Slim Williams, Shirley Comini, Timmie Reusser, Jennie Berry and Virginia Hymer from the Blue Mountain Nursing Home.

Hank Goslin led the flag salute and Amos Cardwell gave the blessing. Marjorie Harris made 12 home deliveries.

Lunch was spaghetti, tossed lettuce salad, grilled French bread, and carrot cake.

We appreciated the help of Marjorie Harris and Carol Johns who helped the servers in the kitchen; Naomi Goslin who prewashed the silverware and plates; and Hank Goslin, Carl Leishman, and Marvin Casebeer who cleaned the dining hall.

The lucky people whose names were drawn for the gift certificates were: Marjorie Harris, Branding Iron; Timmie Reusser, Prairie Drug; and Hank Goslin, Mort’s Barber Shop. Vida Viken won the free senior lunch.
